Default Help 1992 Corvette VATS..........

Ok folks here is my problem. I have a 1992 Corvette. It will not start at all. I tried checking the key with the volt meter. Now the corvette dealership is telling me the 1992 Module Doesn't have a vats. Does anyone have a clue? Maybe a part number I would appreciate any help.

Hmm..... I have a 1992 Convertible and I can assure you it has a VATS unit onboard. I'm sure you have read the other VATS threads on this forum. Let's start off with basics before we condem the VATS unit.

1) Does everything else work on the car?
2) When was the starter replaced? A dead spot will act just like the VATS unit isn't working. Hitting it a couple of times with a small hammer and trying the key again will rule this out. I just replaced the starter on mine because it was behaving just like yours.
3) What other issues has the car had?

Does your ignition key have the black pellet on the body of the key? If so, then you have a PASS key system or a VATS. You can measure the resistance across the key with a meter and that is what the security system is looking for. Could be the key reader built into the ignition tumbler, have more problems with those than anything because of the enviroment it lives in, so to speak. Imagine how many times the ignition key has been put in and out of the tumbler over the years. I've bypassed the tumbler by installing a resistor across the 2 wires coming from the switch to fake the module into thinking the right key is in the slot. Good Luck [8D]
