Help!! How can a Clutch Fork Pop off????
Hey all. (so new had posted this in the wrong forum)
I am new here and can really use some help figuring this one out. Our 93 vette was brough in by tow truck to the shop. We were told that the hydrolic line was damaged by the shop who had done our clutch a year ago. So we contact the old shop and he comes to Chevy to look at it says ok I will replace it. We were told by chevy we need to replace our slave cylindar and our master cylindar and that the push rod should be replaced since there is over 100,000 miles on it. So the car gets towed back to the old shop manager says he should have noticed and gets a shorter one so where its not touching the catallaic converter bracket anymore. He also stated that the slave cylindar and the master do not need to be replaced that its fine.
However car is still not working. He says that the Clutch fork has been popped off and was caused by the service shop driving the car in and out of there service bay and onto the tow truck. However when I spoke to Chevy's service shop I was told that no way no how would that have caused it. Then I was told that they recommend me replacing the slave cylindar and the master cylinder not thats it required after I was originally told to have it fixed. So now I am lost and confused. I have two shops blamming each other and I am stuck in the middle. Can someone please explain to me how the Clutch Fork could have popped off? Its going to cost me 300 just to have this shop put it back in.I just feel like I am being jerked aroundby chevy. Thanks everyone

You need to write that down, and get the Chevy service rep to sign it. That's your whole case, if it goes to small claims...

O.K., I thought the push rod was rplaced with a shorter one, not the hyd. line.
Ya might just need to bleed the system after changeing the line. Sounds like the line got burned through and lost the fluid. That's why it wouldn't work. I still can't see how the clutch fork could have come loose. The push rod yes, fork no.
What were the symtoms prior to calling the tow truck?

Let me take a wild guess........
You pressed down on the clutch pedle and it went to the floor. You felt some resistance, but it just seemed to suddenly,"let go", right?
So my diagnosis is,........ the hyd. line burst, and in the process of pressing the clutch peddle several times, the push rod worked loose due to lack of hyd. resistance, and came loose from the clutch fork.
So, the clutch fork is still in place where it pivots in the bell housing. If not, some body has got some good explainin' to do.
Still, just my opinion, O. K.?
