HELP PLEASE...My Vette runs like crap!!
I have a 1990 withsmoke coming frrm both sides of the exhaust. Plus I got two codes.... # 32 and #62. I push the gas but the power just is not there. Do I need to pull the plugs and check there? Or is it maybe a vacuum leak? Plus I have a dead oil temp gauge and a dead engine temp gauge. Thanks for reading this I would greatly appreciate any help in these matters.
Oh yeah, I removed the cats.
Another question. Is the EGR really that important?
Hoping to change the fuel filter and check the resistance on the injectors this weekend. Any other points I can check on???
Thanks very much- ZR1clone

Hey Kevin...
Yup vacuum on TPI is important. Very important.
Print out each page of this article, and put it in the 'library', next to the toilet.

Since you got an oil burn, and since you got a 32 (EGR) vacuum leak, start with the valve cover gaskets. Vacuum can be lost at the valve covers.
Vacuum leak is what's causin' your lopin' idle (up and down). This is a priority repair, in my opinion.

Code 62 is for high engine oil temp, which is why it probably runs bad. ECM is cutting back on timing and fuel to combat the high temp readings it is seeing. Temp sensor is in the left side of the oil pan. EGR is important to prevent detonation and to keep exhaust temp down for emmisions. There is no vacuum under your valve covers, if there is then there is a problem with your PCV system. Good luck. [8D]

The Bohacz article says v/c, dipstick, even filler cap has to seal properly to prevent 'unread' air from gettin' in...

Yup - sure enough. I just read it again myself (for the 30th time since I got the magazine in 2000).
It reverted back in '90 TPI.
I don't know what to tell ya'. Maybe oil leakin' from the valve covers don't matter too much to the tune of the motor.[sm=smiley25.gif]

OK guys these are the years for MAP&MAF
82-84 MAP
85-89 MAF
90-93 MAP
94-01 MAF with MAP as a backup
The TPI is a reference to tune port injection ( a style of manifold) as in the L98 long tubes that are tuned (the same length) they go from the top of the manifold down under to the opposite side.Ether MAP&MAF are used on these manifolds. After 94 they used both.
Kevin go back to what Mech 259 is trying to tell you about the oil temp sensor this could be throwing every thing off.

Thanks Ric. I checked and Advance Auto Parts has one for $35.00. I guess that is a good price. I found it at Davies for like $31 and Eckler's for about the same. I'm hoping to do it this weekend but can't find the step-by-step in my Haynes manual. Do you know what the process entales? Is it too hard for a novice? Just jack the back and...Hmm... oil pan... twist...and...
Thanks for the advice. Kevin
