The instrument cluster in my '84 Corvette is not working. Are there any tests an amateur con do before buying rebuilt cluster? If I do need a new cluster, can I install by unplugging the old cluster and plugging in the new one? HELP?

 

I also have a c4 with the 1st generation instrument cluster. Just as yours did mine would go out and come back on if you are handy and not afraid of tackling a project, you could remove the unit and repair it yourself. and save about 400 beans.
