Default New Antenna, but static and extra wire!

Hello everyone. I recently installed a new power antenna in my ‘86 convertible. There is now heavy static from the radio. I looked underneath and it appears that I didn’t reattach a ground strap. You can see it in the picture. For reference, this is from underneath the car behind the driver’s side rear wheel looking up at the bottom of the new antenna. I assume that the strap should have been attached to one of the two antenna mounting bolts. Is that correct? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums! This must not be an exact replacement, I would say yes the ground strap should be from frame to antenna base ground, mounting screws maybe if they ground to the antenna frame. If the antenna wire is good from the radio to the antenna area (even with just the coax wire to the back of the car) you should be able to pick up a few fm stations with some static. I wonder if you have good continuity in the coax cable (inside and outside) you might want to check that. And see if there`s a good ground from antenna unit to frame.

Thanks! I’ll let you know how I make out.

Pete: Welcome to the forum. Don't know about the C4s but the C3s had a small metal plate below the antenna to serve as the ground plane since there's no metal body for that purpose.
