After getting my old C4 reliably roadworthy again last fall, it happens that I am now the proud owner of a totaled C4 corvette. I've let it sit for a while ever since it tumbled over an embankment of boulders two days before Christmas, and I finally decided that it would make a good donor to a rolling chassis in decent condition.
However, in searching for donor chassis, it occurred to me that I am now free to get creative with the car as it is, since it runs and drives just fine. With the Gambler 500 coming up next month, I decided to try building a quick offroad vette to run on some trails.
Last weekend I got the fenderwells on one side cut out to fit the used truck tires I bought. The rear tires will be 33" tires off a Tundra, and the fronts will be some older 30" tires with decent tread. I have talked to a couple folks that have fit 33's on the rear or a C4, but I noticed that mine rub part of the unibody so it is necessary to do as much of a lift as possible.
This is a long shot, but has anyone here ever messed around and lifted their C4?
Yes, I fully understand that this is sacrilege. But this chassis is slated for scrapping anyway, and pretty much every single body panel was already damaged. I would never dream of doing this if the body was really worth saving.
If the body was really worth saving that would be a fun prospect, but it isn't particularly worth it.
This is really just going to be a project for fun and for taking out on dirt roads during the summer. Especially since it is a convertible and the hard top got destroyed.
I have heard that the rear lift is pretty simple because the crossbody leaf spring in the rear can be lifted up with spacers. However, I'm not sure how much I can get away with doing that before the stock suspension runs into an issue.
Six inches would be more than adequate. I would settle for 1.5-3. Someone told me that Ford Explorer shocks will fit it, so I'll check there for a cheap option.
