Default rear suspension

I have just aquired a 1984 vette and its in great shape except for the rear suspension. it seems to shift to the side under power and back when I let off. Is this a common problem with these older cars and how do I go about fixing it without replacing everything under the car?

Default RE: rear suspension

Need to check your rear control arm bushings for cracks and looseness. If you have a floor jack, jack each side up individually with the jack under the lower control so you take spring pressure off the suspension, the see if you have any in and out movement by grasping tire top and bottom and pushing in and out. Then use a pry bar under the tire to lift up and down to see if there is any slack in ball joints, then front to back and watch your control arm bushings for slack. That's about the best I can describe what to do. Good Luck. [8D]
