Default Steering bump

Aloha, any help will be appreciated: I have a recently purchased 88 C4 Conv. Low miles and no leaks. Noticed that when car first started the steering is heavy. to the left I really have no issues just heavybut to the right at about a 2 o'clock position the steering almost stops as if I have some type of interference in the movement. I can force it and it will then go thru the turn and be normal. sometimes in first few minutes of operation it still sticks but after a short while it all seems to be normal and works well. the longer the trip the better it works. I am afraid to let my wife drive it (and I bought it for her) for this reason. is it a rack problem or power steering? HELP!

It sounds to me to be a broken p/s rack when I first bought mine it didn the same thing un the rack was actually seperating and the alignment was WAY off!!! it cost me two tires and a brand new p/s rack plus money to align it[:@][:@][:@]but i should have caught it before i bought it o'well the rack i bought was $280 works great now i bought it from a guy i knew at a dealership

Thanks, I had a feeling that since their were no leaks and after afew miles it was ok that the problem was in the rack itself, Aloha and Mahalo All input is appreciated.

FYI; on another forum I was given the advise of cleaning/flushing the system with mineral spirits and using a upper grade fluid. Did this three times and my steering is pretty good now saving me from replacing the unit 9 (for now). Do not know how long it will last but it seems to have worked in my case. Used fluid from Royal purple. Hope this helps someone else.

There is a Technical Service Bulletin out from GM on the power steering being "too stiff". It is Document ID # 226311, and was last revised on Feb 24, 1994. You can access this Bulletin on www.service.gm/servlets and go from there.

I saw it called 'c4 sleeping sickness' in an ad in a vette magazine. The ad was for new steering components. Probably not entirely necessary, but the steering problem was probably pretty common.
