Default waterpump woes

I was changing my oil and noticed coolant on the cross member. Do I need to replace the opti and cap and rotor even if it's running good? Does coolant always ruin the opti?

It seems you may want to check where the leak is coming from....as far as the Opti,by '94,I do believe,it is vented to the point where any leaks, weather, the stock market,we're broke, politics, you name it,will not affect it.Is your car running ok?? Does it have a miss at all??? What's your mileage??Is your thermastat housing leaking??? But,hey,so many different things can and do go wrong with our beloved Vette that every now and then we have to bust our brains to figure it out......IF you determine your Opti is amiss, might as well replace the water pump as well...they're both in a kind of "mutual assembly and engineering relationship".....my quote,though....LOL!!! Hope you fix your problem....let me know, will ya?? God Bless you and yours...Joe

I had mine off a few months ago. I wiped the opti, vacuumed it with the computer attachment, then put RTV around the cap seal.

If my pump blows, the opti WILL stay high and dry...

The part I have in bold is FAR from correct. True, the 1994 does/did have a vented opti but it was still not vented very good. GM did not do a real good job at venting the opti until the 95/96 models. If your changing the water pump, then chang out the opti.

BTW, thats a great thing Chuck did to his opti and if you go with MSD I reccomend loctiting the rotor screw. Some units have been loose out of the box and a few have lost the rotor from loose screws at higher revs.
