What the hell is in my transmission?

RE: What the hell is in my transmission?
Can't really tell the size of it from the picture but will it fit thru the fill hole? At least then you may be able to tell what it is and where it may have come from. Perhaps you might use magnet to remove it but you will still need to find out where it came from and why it's not in it's proper place. I would hate for you to lock up your tranny and rip the drive shaft out or the rear end. Itreally isn't safe to drive. Please be careful with it. Cheers

Sure can! If the tranny locks up itcould twist the drive shaft off like a beer can. Depending where it snaps it could jam in the road and possibly pole vault the car or tear out the rear end or come up thru the rear deck or puncture the fuel tank or....... Saw it happen in a friendsTrans Am whenI was a kid. Tranny atethird gear and locked up tighter than a gnat's ***. Really messed up a beautiful '69 TA and left a trench in the road, not to mention the stinky mess in the drivers seat. Cheers

Try this site. http://www.5speeds.com/dne.htm
Also this is a break down of the Super T-10, which is the gear box. Doug nash used the Super T-10 and bolted there 2 speed overdrive to its rear. Here is a parts break down for the tranny. Very helpful. It would be nice to make this thread a stick for these website links. http://www.richmondgear.com/07pdfs/RG25.pdf
I have taken my cover off before while tranny is in car, but it is very tight. Look at diagram (PDF Link)and identify the part you see inside. My guess is it is #6 in the diagram.

RE: What the hell is in my transmission?
this may be a stupid question but i know the "old time" transmission guys would put a magnet in the bottom of a transmission to collect any metal or shaving from the transmission would this "washer" be a magnet?
