Default Whose haveing problems with digital readout?

So! how many c4 owners are having or have had problems with thier digital readout instruments?I have had my 92 in the shop off and on for close to a year and still have not solved the problem. As you can read in my other post I have had a great deal of the components replaced/rebuilt. I'm just curious if this is a problem for anyone else?I would like info about your situation if you have had to deal with this also. What year? mileage? Location?
What have you repaired? Have you solved the problem? I am down to rebuilding the cluster or replacing the gear inside the transmission. But thats all "IF" all the components that I have had replaced dont turn out to be defective!!!!!!!! I dont mind problem solving if I'm sitting in my garage chewing on it. But when It's at the dealership and thier chewing on it, Its my wallet that gets shreded. "TIME IS MONEY" and latly I am short on both. It would be great to hear some feedback. Thanks

please visit this site, it has lots of useful info, even if your not a tech, maybe you know someone who is, the repairs are fairly simple, the biggest problems is the cold solder connections on the piggy-back power supply board, mine did the exact same thing, but since, I've repaired it, everything is fine

Thanks for input but my 92 doesnt have problems with the lighting or cruise. Cruise does stutter a little but thats because the speedo cant pick a speed. My speedo either stays at 0 or jumps up and down the number scale. All other functions on cluster are operating fine.

If your car runs ok when the screen goes out then i'm with oldtvman on the link above. My research shows the cold solder joints to fix 9 of 10 lcd display faults.

Screen doesnt go out, it just jumps up and down the number scale. So the readout its self is bright and clear, all gauges function correctly. All back lighting works correctly. I would think that if it were a cold joint that it would either be on or off. not intermittent. I'm hoping that its the body control module that I had rebuilt . Just so It a warranty item. This is going way out of budget.

Sounds like a speed sensor problem to me. You can check the output of the speed sensor, I think it is on the tailshaft of the tranny, with an a/c voltmeter. Check to see if you have relatively consistent a/c voltage, not d/c, at consistent speed. Jack up and put jack stands under the rear end. Unplug the sensor and put your a/c voltmeter across the 2 terminals on the sensor and have some one try and hold it at 20 mph, 30mph, and so forth to see if you have consistent voltage (should be less than 1 volt). Or you can just change the sensor and try it. They are not very expensive. Make sure and use A/C Delco part on it. [8D]

Well you are right Mech259 I picked up the vette yesterday. They warrantied the speed sensor because we had already replaced it before. Fichtner Chevrolet has been very helpful and professional.[sm=groupwave.gif] I will start driving it daily again to check it out. Sadly now that its fixed its back on the for sale list.

Good! Always glad to help out a fellow Corvette owner. I work on these things every day and even then, they can be a pain. [:@]
