WinALDL Throwing 46 VATS Failure After Start, But Dies
Long story short...new C4 to me...had some serious hesitation issues which escalated to severe bucking on acceleration and several stalls. Plan to keep the car indefinitely so did a top end rebuild including the following:
1. Distributor cap, rotor, wires, plugs.
2. New fuel injectors, 22 lb. Delphi
3. New seals throughout fuel rail (rail pressure is good at startup and during drive/idle via gauge taped to windshield)
2. EGR valve
3. Air intake temperature sensor
4. IAC valve (reset per FSM procedure)
5. Hot tank/glass beaded plenum and runners, new gaskets all around
6. Cleaned throttle body, throttle screw set to touch plus a quarter turn.
7. Throttle position sensor (set properly via multimeter and WinALDL to 0.54 volts)
Car cranks strong and fires every time but IMMEDIATELY dies. HOWEVER, twice in about 20 attempts, the car started and ran fine. I drove around town...rough idle, light stutter, but generally ran strong without issues as significant as before. Second time, idle in the garage for a few minutes, revved the engine, sounded great. Shutdown, attempted restart, died again...and again...and again. WinALDL is reporting a 46 VATS Failure in the data log but there is no code reported on the car via A/B diagnosis jumper. Sure feels like fuel is being denied after initial cold start injection. FSM for Code 46 says to check for open short or ground in CKT 963. Of course, wiring diagrams stop at 899. Any thoughts/direction on how to proceed here?

Through pulling of the MAF and IAC I'm able to get it to start. I don't think this has anything to do with VATS. I have some work to do here. Will update/request via another thread after I gather the required data now that it stays idling.
Rigged a smoker and found a massive plenum gasket leak. Looks like I crushed the gasket by having the runners too tight when reinstalling the plenum. New gaskets, sealed up, and fires up very well. Idle holds nicely now but still having other issues. Will start a new thread on it.
