Default 1998 C5 Headlights up, on- key off

I need the assistance of a veteran with this model and issue. I am the mechanic, trying to help a friend, and after a ton of research, thought I could fix the issue, No Luck. Car came to me with the headlights staying up and on when the ignition was off, key out of the ignition. Drivers motor was grinding. Replaced motor, no change. Replaced HCM, zip. Cleaned 4 grounding points in engine compartment, nada. Is it the stalk light switch? I was going to unplug the harness to experiment, but this is not my car to toy with. As of now we have to disconnect the battery every time it is parked. I want to do right and fix this car. Any assistance will be appreciated. The vehicle is a 1998 C5 convertible, with 150,000 miles. Let me know if u need any more data. Thanks, Dave

Welcome to the forum. You may need a factory service manual with a wiring diagram to figure this one out. Has it had any aftermarket electrical items added to it?

Whatever it takes. I also work on a 50th Anniv. Corvette for a different friend, so the more prepared i am the better. No, the vehicle has no add ons. The stereo is ancient & i think the CD unit is non responsive... I have read in other threads that the manual is something of a Holy Grail, is this true? Thanks for the reply.

You might check with some of the aftermarket Corvette suppliers as they sometimes have a schematic by itself. The factory service manual is available from Helm, Inc.

Default Multi switch

Owner just told me when she tapped the multi switch the lights would go down... Wish i had that info prior. So, need to replace/repair multi switch. Since None are available this year, I am going to attempt a rebuild. I found a good info string online, and really have no choice. Any Helpful Tips?? Dave

Just be careful if you have to remove the steering wheel because those airbags can be very harmful.

Mahalo. Switch is separate from column. 2 Torx screws & a hard to reach connector. Battery is disconnected so no airbag danger. Very good links on this site for job.

I was told by a dealer service manager that even with the battery disconnected there is some charge remaining on the airbag for a period of time that is enough to trigger it. He may have just been telling me that to scare me, I don't know.

if your lights are staying on after you turn the key off turn the lights on manually then quickly turn them off works for me when this happens to my 2000 vette.\
