Coil overs or Leaf?
Hi all, still undecided on coils or upgrading leafs? Car is a 2002 Z06 track only car running mostly intermediate/advanced speeds. Basically an OEM suspension except Bilstein DRM shocks, lowered and polygraphite bushings all around. Are coil overs worth the extra $1000 and hassle of installation? And if I did leaf spring upgrade, what lbs FR/RR would anyone recommend? Oh and Sway bars will be swapped also. THX Brian
You asked some really good questions. Suspension upgrades in your case are very critical. The people who probably can help you the most are going to be running on the same tracks as you. Your driving conditions are nothing like a street car, and your car should be tailored to the specific conditions.
I'm in the middle of a coil conversion on my C5. believe it or not, it's not that difficult.
As to your original question, when you look around at the strong track cars they're almost all on coils right? there's your answer. There are great entry level ones that will be slightly better than the OEM leaf setup and there are higher end track specific coils that will be significantly better. If this is really just a track car and not doing TT or some class racing where you must retain OEM suspension style, I would suggest coils for sure.
