Belts Squealing
I just bought a 2000 C-5 from a private owner in Miami. He took the car to a dealer. They told him that the tensioners and belts needed replacing. He had the work done at the dealer.I left Miami with the car and had no noise until I got to Jacksonville,Fl.I got the car home to Atlanta and took it to a dealer and was told there was nothing wrong with the car. They said the belts had some type of fluid on them,so I'm still with the noise.Need help.

RE: Belts Squealing
Hi everyone. I hope this is ok to come in on this thread too. I'm new to the forum and was hoping to get help with a squeaking belt as well. I have an 02vette and it just started doing this. We put spray on the belt and someone said to take a crayon to the belt to wax it, but all of that still didn't help. My husband and I have a show we are taking it to this weekend, but I don't want to go with that squeak, it's embarrassing!!! Can anybody give us all some help on this!!! Much thanks

Welcome to the site 02vettegirl
normally when a belt squeals it's because the belt is glazed, or a pulley is bad. Have you put a new belt on it yet? Give that a try, or check your belt good for any glazing (shiny areas).
Are you sure it's coming from the belt? and not maybe the bearings on the alternator?
If you pinpoint it to the belt I would put a new one on and try that
Good luck

Thanks for replying. It's not a new belt, but it doesn't look glazed. The sound is not coming from the alternator side, but more from the side of the belt tensioner. Could it be the bearings in that? Is that a easy fix or are we talking some money?
Thanks for welcoming me

I just had 1 pulley fail that was driving my supercharger and 3 more fail that were driving the main belt. The total bill with all the labor and parts was just over $700 bucks. If its just one pulley or the tensioner I would think if u did it ur self maybe $50 bucks but I could be wrong. Good luck with that!

RE: Belts Squealing
The tensioner pulley is not that expensive, and hopefully your husband can take care of that yourself. Just remove the belt, than the one bolt that holds the pulley on, actually pretty easy to replace. Avoid that mechanic if you can to keep the cost down!
good luck, and let us know of that takes care of the problem.
