brake squeal
Have a 2003 coupe. I get some brake squeal, mainly off the front. The dealer tells me this is normal because of the hard metalic pads they use. They have checked the rotors and say they are fine. I guess bottom line is they say "normal". I have a 93 and don't get that. I realize its a different generation. But what say others??????????
More and more these dealers just hope to give you an answer to your problem and send you on your way. What a joke!
There's probably brake dust buildup from using cheap pads. If the squeal is coming from using the hard metallic pads, as they say, than tell them to install ceramic ones at no charge.
The only time I have ever experienced squealing brakes was normally caused from cheap pads.
I wonder what they would say if a potential buyer was test driving that car new, and they heard the brakes squeal. I bet they wouldn't sell many cars that way. I know I wouldn't buy it.
Bottom line is they didn't squeal when it was new, so why is it doing it now.
You may just have to install new pads yourself, or continue to bug them untill they do something about it.
Be sure to tell them how UN-satisfied you are with their answer.

The brakes on my 2000 Camaro squeal something awful. And we just put new cross-drilled and slotted rotors and new pads on less than 5,000 miles ago. I don't know what's going on. Whatever, hurts my ears though. But I'd like to know if it's the pads or what.
The brakes on my 04 Z06 squeal when the pressure is light but not heavy. Like if I'm coming up to a stop light and I'm slowing down slowly I can get some squeal. If I press a little harder it goes away.
I did some research on the net and found that maybe what your dealer is saying is correct. A summary of what I found is that high performance brake pads make noise. Of course this is research done on the internet so consider the source. I'm amazed at the stopping power of my car so I put up with the squeal. I've considered replacing pads and may do so next summer.

I have GM drilled and slotted rotors on mine, and Ceramic pads. I have no squeal at all.
I would recommend going through the brakes, cleaning them up, and re lubing the silencers on the pads, or checking to see if they are worn.
