Default C5 Brakes for Track

Hello,
I am new to the forum, but do not own a corvette. The reason I am here is with a question regarding C5 brakes. I own a BMW E36 M3 and there is a company that sells a conversion to C5 brakes for my car. I have tracked it a bunch and feel this COULD offer a huge improvement while still being economical. The kits is around $2k for front and rear while a similar Brembo kit is north of that just for the fronts. I am just curious of 2 things. Were the standard C5 and Z06 brakes the same, and does anyone have any experience on the track with their stock brakes? Thanks for any input.

The Z06 and C5 rotors are the same. Although I have not raced my car, I have read many times that C5 drivers like inexpensive, blank rotors - just like the OEMs. They do perform very well, although for street use, I personally like PowerSlots. They eliminate glazing from a lack of high-pressure braking. Look at the Caparo, which is what many consider to be the ultimate street car. It was designed by Gordon Murray, who was also responsible for the creation of the incredible McLaren F1. The Caparo has slotted rotors - no holes at all. Function over beauty is Gordon's philosophy.

Dave,
Thanks for the input. I am not so much worried about rotors, I too have found on my M3 that you go with the cheapest and they will wear out like the rest, but won't hit the wallet so hard. Also ultimately it is your brake pads that cause the issue not you rotors. Anyway, thanks for th input, haven't made the deicision yet, but will soon.

The stock C5 and Z06 pads are excellent, although when combined with blank rotors, they tend to form uneven deposits on the rotors, resulting in the dreaded "pulsating brake pedal" syndrome. This is not a problem if you frequently race, but for the average driver, it can become very irritating. This is why I switched to PoweSlots - no more uneven deposits and pulsating brakes.
