Default Dual Zone A/C problem --solved

I had the problem with passenger side A/C blowing cold and drivers side blowing warm on my '98 Vette. I took it to dealership to have it diagnosed. It ended up being that I had a freon leak on the compressor case itself. With .7 lbs of freon left in the system, the A/C condenser only had enough cold air to cool the first air duct which was the passenger side. I ended up having to replace the A/C compressor. The initial estimate was 1400 + tax and I was able to talk them down to 1100 plus tax...:- ), with a lifetime guarantee on the compressor.

This news surely makes a good case for having an extended warranty. I believe Warranty Direct is what many recommend. Still, it's good they were able to find the problem.

I would make sure your dual zone is still working properly. I've been working on cars for 20+ years and in my book, if it is low on freon, you won't get cool air out of any vents. Most dual zone a/c problems I've encountered have been repaired either by replaceing control head or one of the actuators is bad.

This guy is right !

If the freon was that low the compressor wouldn't even come on.

You had a bad actuator or control, actuators are a pain to replace on C5's and controller is very expensive, you would pay a lot on labor or parts either way.
