Default first vette

I got an '01 C5 last week and hada few questions. The l.e.d. display for the dual air is dimming on its own? Is this typical for this year? The dealer said that it is due to the cold weather here in Oh. Sounds like a short. Can this be easily fixed(inexpensive)? Also the removable top has started de-elaminating?. Is there a fix for this or does the top need redone? Anyone with info for a first time vette owner would be appreciated. Thanks!
Also would appreciate any good care products. More questions coming!!!

Welcome, 01pewter!

No, this is not normal during 26+ F cold weather. I've had my 01 in26 degree temps and had not seen any issues. The delaminating top can possibly be painted to become an opaque top, but fixing it is not possible (at least from what I've read over the last 6 years. My plastic top still looks pristine and I can offer the following tips for preventing the same thing from happening, should you buy a new one:

1) Avoid wide temperature swings and cover it while out in the blazing sun.

2) Wash it with nothing but car wash soap and water.

3) Protect it and the rest of your car's exterior with ReJex. This stuff was originally used on military aircraft for its incredible protection against bug splatters, bird crap, and tree sap. The stuff is amazing - easy to use and long lasting.

4) Use Zaino "Leather in a bottle" for your seats. This stuff smells EXACTLY like fresh leather and protects against cracking and fading.

5) Get an aftermarket air intake, especially one that allows cold, outside air to get drawn into the intake. I gained 13 Rear Wheel Horsepower with just an intake and a cat-back exhaust.

Yep that's not normal for the display to dim like that, and your dealer is full of it. This is a pretty typical problem with these cars, and I'm afraid you will have to remove the unit and do the repairs yourself, using a soldering gun, or just buy another unit and put in there, if your familiar with Ebay they have them on there and the guy is reasonable
