Gas Tank Issue

Gas Tank Issue
I purchased a 76 Vette back in Oct of 2006. Although the vette runs great, it has had electrical issues that drain the battery within a couple of hours and therefore it hasn't been driven much. My new years resolution is to completely repair the vette this year. I got an early start on this resolution as I was heading out to go 4x4ing with my daughter and noticed a wet spot on the garage floor behind the vette. When I went to investigate, the gas tank was leaking. After removing the spare tire holder, I noticed someone had tried to repair the tank using JB Weld and was using carpet as some sort of pad. (See image)
My issue is that I don't know how to properly drain the gas in the tank. I have 3 sets of manuals but they are for the 1976 vett which shows the fuel connections at the bottom of the tank. The current tank I have corresponds with the 1982 body (fuel connections on top) but my manuals do not tell me how to drain this tank.
Can anyone give me some pointers on draining the tank and if the tank can be removed with the body still on the car?
I'd like to get the gas out tonight so I can push it back into the garage. Tomorrow I'll have to go out and get 82 manuals I suppose.
Any help is appreciated.

RE: Gas Tank Issue
Look on the net for a build manual for your year vet. There are tons of stuff out there for C3s. I just traded my 79 for an 03. I found that when working on my 79 that is was best to replace parts with NEW part v.s. junk yard or used parts. Surf the net for a new tank, there are at least a half dozen part houses that make new repos.
I am sure this is not much help, but good luck with the car.

wow, flammable carpet between the mufler and gas tank...that's scary! sorry i don't have any advice for you, i hope to purchase a C3 in the next year or so that's just one more thing I'll be watching out for! gigabyte is right, i've seen tons of various ads on the web for all kinds of parts (new). you might also skim the advertisements of any number of vette magazines. they usually have all sorts of unexpected parts!

RE: Gas Tank Issue
When I had my 68 (for almost 22 years), I bought many of my parts from ZIP and Ecklers. My suspension parts came from Vette Brakes.
Regarding electrical drains: My windshield wiper motor failed by shorting out a couple of times, but the last thing I did before selling my car was to havea bunch ofthe electrical (accidents waiting to happen) wiring replaced by an auto-electric pro. It cost $1000, but marked the end of those weird drains I was having. The guy who bought my car still emails me from time to time and the car has been running well.

The tank can be removed from underneith the car, if in fact the fuel lines are on top then you can try to start a syphon on the large line but I would remove the filler assemlby entirely and syphon from there.
