Default How do you guys/gals time yourselves?

I want to know what the 0-60 time is on my C5 but when I try to do it myself it's too complicated. What with having to figure out what the right rpm should be before I release the brakes (I have an auto tranny), pressing the button to start the chronogragh built into the gauges, keeping an eye on the speedometer to see when I reach 60mph then stopping the chrono on time, not to mention keeping my eye on the road and adjusting for reaction time....it's just not practical for me.

How do you all do it? Do you go to a track or do you have friends stand by the road and time you? Please advise. Thank you.

Well, the absolute best way to time yourself is to go to santuioned NHRA drag strip. But they are open only certain times, you have to pass a safety inspection (not too hard if you have a stock car), and you have to wait in line for achance to run, so you get only a few chances per night, plus, at least at first, it is disconcerting to have a crowd of on-lookers. But you get a timeslip accurate to several decimal places: usually no 0-60 time (a few have a radar gun to give that), but 60 foot time, 1/8th and 1/4 mile times and speeds, etc.

The G-tech is second best. They are not too accurate until you calibrate them: we do that by taking it to the track and adjusting it until it agrees with the tracks timers -- then we can get 060, 0-100, etc. That's how I got the 0-150 mph time I reported here for my car some time back.

The final way is to have a passenger operate a stop watch. But of course now you have a time for having two, not one, on board.

Hey, Lee, a followup question? I had recently heard that the new G-Tech Pro's self-calibrate. Is that a wives tale? If they don't, you're right... they are not very useful really, unless they are calibrated.
