Lifting a C5 convertable
Hello all
Just picked up my first vette. Its a 2001 Red convertable. What a feeling ridding in that car with the top down.
The first thing I paln to do is replace the exaust. Still doing research on what brand. A friend of mine said you have to be very careful when a shop lifts your car to do any work. Is that a urban myth or is it something I need to be aware of.
Thanks in advance
Mike

That is very true. Lifting pucks are available that fit into a slot in each side of the underside of the car. These pucks prevent paint damage in those areas.
Here's what they look like:

TopSpeed,
I don't think they are necessary when jacking a C4:
"The pinch-welded rib on the frame runs the entire length of the lower facia (where the jacking arrows are) and if you place the jack pad midway between the front and rear arrows, you can safely rasie the entire side.
Look under the car along the frame rail and find a stud that is used to support the brake lines (driver side) and fuel lines (pass. side) Just place the jack pad in front of or behind that stud and lift the car. Place stands at the front and rear, and then go to the other side and lift in the same way."

I would ask him what he uses to jack up C4s. Let us know and we'll tell you what we think. I'm sure if he's done others, he knows what he doing, but it never hurts to find out for your own knowledge.
