Default long tube v.s. shortys

Hey gang,

I've read some articles stating that long tube headers are the best for the cameros and that short tubes will not develop the horse power like they should.

I've been looking but can't seem to find any articles on corvette for long tube v.s. shortys. I have a 03 that I want to put headers and an exhaust on.

Anybody have any input? I am an east coastie....North Carolina

LTs will always produce more horsepower (often, 3x as much), compared to shorties, but since LTs wipe out the pre (pup) cats in some year C5s (like my 01), they are deemed illegal in states like CA and perhaps a few others. If you can legally have them, they can, along with a good tune, net you 30 RWHP. That's not pocket change!

Thanks for taking the time to give some input BlueShark and Dave01. Asking questions anda whole lot of readun sure keeps the bills from falling outa the wallet for dumb stuph that don't work

Goota decide on the brands to go with now, but CAI is first on the list and then a set of 1 7/8 longtubes and something to keep the noise downgoing outthe other end.

I don't want something too loud, just a smoothe rumble is all I want to see with my ears.

H pipe, X pipe What? Any differances? Which is better? Just looking a pics it would seem that bend X is better since there is not any sharp bends.

If you can legally put LT headers on your car, do so: 1 3/4 inch pipes if the car is stock or only slightly modified ( cam, intake, etc.) or 1 7/8 if it has additional dispalcement or heads, Supercharger, etc. They will add 25-30 Hp and a lot of torque and transform the car. Overall, the longer the tube length, the better.

Shorty pipes do not add much power on the street. But they are better than nothing.
