Default New Key

I just picked up a 98 Coupe, the owner had one key plus a new blank he had order from the dealer. Can any hardware place cut the key or does it required a Chevy dealer cut it and possible activate chip in key?

They should be able to cut the key with no problem. I don't thinkit has to be activated, it's just a resister embedded in the key.

Any locksmith can cut it, You might check and make sure the resistor is the same on both keys before cutting it..

"The keys have to be the same resistance or you will have to go through a "learn" process that requires a Tech 2 scan tool and takes about 12 minutes.
