Please Help! Convertible Top Rubbing Groove in Cover
I have a '99 C5 Convertible. I have just noticed that across the back, when the top is down, is a groove in the fiberglass where the top rests on the car. When I look at the convertible top edge that actually rests on the car, it is wearing and now has red paint on it. Has anyone ever had this happen? I am just sick about this. Do I have to replace the convertible top? Any suggestions? Thanks. Teddi
I would ask your local dealership service manager what they normally do for this condition. A Corvette specialty shop may also have seen and fixed the problem. It doesn't hurt to drop by and show them what you have.
If I correctly understand your post, you are referring to the rear edge of the top which pressure mates to the fiberglass tonneau when the top is up. Check to see if there is anything abrasive on the bottom edge like grit, etc. That bottom edge should be perfectly smooth. Also be sure to keep a good wax coating on your tonneau to avoid any future damage.
