I have a 2000 c5 coupe, never had an issue with anything until this week. Drove the car for about 20 minutes, turned off the car and when I started it up and went to turn the steering wheel it mad a cracking noise, then the steering is choppy. The steering wheel will turn but it "sticks". going down the road its not that noticeable, just when I stop. The power steering fluid is on the mark for cold and hot. any thoughts?

 

Mine acts like it looses power steering when i hit the brakes and turn. My problem is the power steering pump is shot. Maybe thats the case for you or your struts or rack and pinion. Mech259 told me my problem. Im sure he could help you...
