Window stone chip/crack
OK... I have only had my Corvette for a little over a month and I got my first window chip. I am planning on getting it frozen (so it won't continue tospread) but would I be going overboard by getting the windshield replaced? Hence the question, how many of you out there have had a window replaced over a small (0.5cm diameter) chip to the windshield that is barely noticeable? Orwho out there isdriving around with a cracked windshield? OK, the reak dilema isconvincing my wife thatitis the normal response of Corvette owners to replace a windshield and not simply repair a crack -Am I thinking within the norm?

I would and have done the same on my vehicles, and especially would on my Vette.
Hey I figure i pay enough money into my insurance, where they can atleast buy me a window now and than.
My insurance company is pretty good about this, the couple times I have had it replaced, there was no hassle. I just called them up, and I had the mobile repair guy over in a couple hours. $100.00 out of my pocket, but sure love the look of a new windshield.

If the "chip" is small, and especially if it is not in your direct line of vision, I'd have it fixed. My insurance company does not charge any deductible for having this done, so out-of-pocket expenses are nil. If it is larger than nickle and there are crack lines AND it is in your direct line of vision, have it replaced. I knew a guy who had his 01 C5 windshield replaced for $300 - no insurance involved.

Thanks for your input. I have yet to fix the chip because this weekend it was very humid and drizzling. I was told I had to wait for a dry day to repair a chip... I didn't know that.
I just had my windshield replaced and it cost the insurance company over 1300 just for the glass. I have heads up display and I was told that the heads up display is not as good in the aftermarket windshields. They wanted to put one in mine, but I told them what I heard and that I wanted a Factory one back and lucky for me they did it. One expensive piece of glass!

Who is your insurance company? It sounds as if you have a GREAT insurance company or agent. Most (and no offense to any insurance agents out there) insurance agents and their companies want to hold on to the money paid into the policy and are very tight-fisted with releasing any moneys out to the paying consumer. In addition, I read somewhere (I have forgotten where - maybe here) that the Z06 glass is thinner, therefore lighter too - I wonder if it affects the HUD image?

I wonder what is so different about the factory glass that makes the HUD display better?

As for the insurance company, you have to be persistant. They first tried to say I didn't have the HUD and wanted put a aftermarket winshield in, saying mine was aftermarket already. I checked a few other Vettes and let them know the markings were the same and that I really thought they would be decreasing the value of my vehicle not putting the factory one back. I told her on the phone, "Its not like I have a mustang or some junker" My caris very clean top to bottom. haha I loved saying the mustang part to her. Anyway, they sent through the approval, and later when I talked to her I thanked her.
