Default C-5 headlight problem

I have a 98 C-5. My drivers sid headlight door makes an internal grinding noise for about 10 seconds when it retracts. Does anyone know if theres some sort of relay that is supposed to disengage the motor when it retracts? I have purchased bronze replacement gears, but hate to replace the plastic ones until I solve this issue. Also, about 2 weeks ago, the same headlight door raised on its on and ran the battery down. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your new bronze gears will fix this problem. I had the same problem with my 01, so I replaced both sides.

Or maybe you can lubricate the gears and try it too. Maybe then you wont have to change it.
