New radio
I am installing a Kenwood radio in my 2013, (mainly for a back up camera) and was curious as to where the best place is to mount the satellite antenna. I am thinking of double sided tape on top of the vent outlets but wanted some input on where anyone else put it. I have a convertible and don't want to tear everything apart again, if possible.
On my 77 the antenna lays on top of the dash next defroster vent, the wire goes through the vent not glued or taped. Then I have a carpeted dash cover that lays on top of it. works great. You have more slant in your windshield so it should work better. your double sided tape idea should work good.
I'm not sure where the original sat antennae is located but I figured the vent location should work. It will be beneath the dash but no interference to the windshield. Just wasn't sure how the reception would be. It's magnetic and they recommend a flat metal surface. Good luck with that on a Corvette.
The mounting the antenna on a metal base is to keep it from flying around it's not needed for reception. On some cars and pickups if the reception was bad on the dash then I went for a metal surface outside. I drove T-800 Kenworth's for years and could never get good reception with the antenna on the dash, Best reception was bolting a small metal tab with the mirror bolts that worked the best. That's a good question of where the factory siriusxm antanna is on the Corvette. Gm cars and pickups are almost alwawys mounted in the roof. Just make sure when you position the antenna it has clear view of the sky no metal blocking it. Windshield glass is ok.
Good I hope it works well, I have had Sirius for over 20 years, In work trucks and construction equipment (all it needed was a working FM radio) and all my personal vehicles Being in different parts of country and getting your favorite programs every day was great. Enjoy..
