Any tips on the purchasce of tires for track day events. I have an extra set of rims but want to buy a set of dot track tires.

 

Have you checked out the Michelin Pilot Sport 2?

 

If you are going to be purely on the track with these tires, you do not need DOT rated tires, and assuming the rules allow it, you can go with pure racing tires. Check the rules. Some classes (the classic FAST class (Factory Appearing Stock Tires) only allow street tires, others permit anything you want, still others permit anything you want up to a size). Remember, street tires are for the street . . .

I plan to drive it 80 miles to the track on a half dozen weekends and did not want to trash my street tires. I bought a set of painted rims to keep my polished ones nice for the street and I have a great jack and impact in my garage so I can change out the rubber before I go. I am really getting into the whole drag/track racing thing and think I'm hooked. You advise has been terrific.

So far I have found a very good deal on a set of PIRELLI PZERO ROSSO max performance . Any thoughts onthis peoduct.

I have always heard that the Pirellis don't live long or perform well. Just hearsay though.
