I have a C8r 2025 with Z51 package. This is the 4th Vette I've had. I drive maybe 4 to 6k a year. I'm considering buying a used vehicle for longer trips etc to keep mileage off my Vette. Initial cost of second vehicle would be a cash purchase of 16.5k and insurance of 2400.00 a year. Good idea or not?

 

Welcome to the Fourms. I think its always good to have a dependable Beater for a second vehicle. Most people with Corvettes do.

 

Your only stated purpose to have a second vehicle is to keep miles off your C8, so the only analysis is value retained vs value paid. So do this for three years. Pay $7500 in insurance and depreciate your used vehicle by $5000. You’ve now ‘invested’ $12,500 to maintain the value of your C8. Will you break even or make money there? If you made money, was it enough to offset the lost experience of driving your C8?

I personally put 22K very fun miles on my C8 and also sold it a few months ago, I definitely did not lose enough value on my C8 compared to others with 12K miles to cover that difference.

That said, I do have a second vehicle for other purposes, and I drive it and my Corvette (I went to a C6 ZR1) about 50/50.
