Default 1984 Coupe - $2500

Located in Auburn, MA. Approximately 130k miles, automatic. I will get the title before any sale, I just have not finished the paperwork yet. I previously lived in RI and had it registered there, but it had a valid MA title when I bought it so it should not be a problem. It has been parked in my garage since 2005. I drove it to where it sits, but it needs engine work (it leaked oil pretty bad from everywhere) and a little general TLC (weatherstripping, some interior cosmetics). The engine is out of the car since I intended to rebuild it, but my priorities have changed.

I read your post; don't find too many comments about 84's; I drove one over Thanksgiving Holidays and it looked very good (paint, body and clean engine); can you tell me what your experience was like when you were driving it? I know nothing about Corvettes; from what I've been told I have concerns about the cross-fire injection and the "colorful" dash displays; I guess neither was a big success since they didn't seem to appear in later models. Thanks for any info!

Herzog's 84 has 130k on it,mine has 160k on it somehow they got those miles? The crossfire was used two years,82 and 84(there are no 83's) it is just 2 tbi's just like you find on literally millions of GM cars and trucks. The vette is different in that it has two.The most likely reason for the demise of crossfire is that technology was moving very rapidly at the time and something better came along. I have driven used cars all my life and my 84 is by far the best 24 yr old 160k miles car I have ever owned! The 195 hp engine pulls hard, gets 28-29 miles per gallon at freeway speeds and drives in such a way as to encourage me to drive it spiritedly. I've owned it for a little over four years and once I fixed the many, many problems it came with it has been a great car. The digital dash hung around for a long time and if the 84 is more troublesome than the later ones,it's not by much! Let's face it 20+ yr old cars will have problems! And in comparison to a number of similarly aged cars I have owned it is exceptionally trouble free and a great car in all respects! If 84 are as bad compared to the others as I keep hearing,I can't wait to get my hands on one of them!
I guess what all this gels down to is an 84 is way better than no vette at all! Maybe I feel this way about it because it's my first,I have driven a few over the years, but it took this long to get to the point where I had enough of the kind of money that I could spend on a car that right now is sitting covered in the driveway because there is NO WAY I'm takin' those 245-50's out on our icey roads!
If you're a backyard mechanic like me and want (or need) to have the "vette experience" on a shoestring an 84 could be a candidate, there's a VERY good chance you can get more vette for your money! If you're mechanically challenged or simply don't want to work on it,you had probably be better off with a later model.
Did I say anything with all those words? Good Luck!
Ron
