i hope in the car turn ignition on press reset, press program until i get the blank screen on the dic, hold down the reset button for 3 seconds
and nothing happens?
the radio is turned off, have tried holding the reset down for different lengths of time but still nothing, have also tried the above and then gone back to the programe

You may need to take your car to a dealership and find out if it is equipped to have fobs.

Welcome to the forums. GM used fobs in Corvettes Spence the 80's standard item I believe. You have a Vatts system which does not make things easy, you should have a black pellet on your key that you insert into the ingition key slot. If the car starts and runs the vatts is working fine (that's good). Gm programing can have glitches at times for what every reason. One thing you might try is doing a hard reset which is disconnecting the main battery ground cable for a minute or 2 and reinstall, and see if that makes a differance, It's has to be in the system it can't be deleted,if not maybe try a code reader and see if there is anything there. From time to time on strange issues I check YouTube and see what I'm missing. I always use YouTube to program fobs when I'm able to. The newer cars go to the lock smith for programing, they might be able to answer your fob programming issue also.

Ok, in the instructions, you have new fobs in hand with good batterys? Key on radio off, then press the DIC Reset button. Then press the Options Button on the DIC until the blank space appears, Then press and hold for 3 seconds. Sounds like you made it that far, Then press the options Button until Fob Training is displayed. Then press the Reset button to begin the programing sequence, THe screen should say HOLD LK + UNLK 1ST FOB. Then simultaneously press and hold the lock and unlock for 15 seconds then a message will appear on the DIC showing the program was successful, and then you will be asked if you want to program another remote. And follow the prompts to complete the next remote. Then turn the Key off and remove the Key from the ingition. Then reinsert the key in the ingition switch to on to lock in the programing. If these are the instructions you are using and they don't work then you might need to move into the DIC system for repairs.
