Anyone have a solution for removing the lock from the spare tire carrier without destroying the cover. Key is long gone. Access to the lock for bolt cutters etc is very limited.

I can't remember the set-up very well, can you get a SAWZ-ALL in to cut the rod above the lock. Then you could replace the rod and lock with new if you want, I know they are available.

 

Ya might be able to get a die-grinder in to cut the rod/lock.

Welcome to CF! I had the same problem. Not wanting to destroy anything I had the local locksmith come out and open it up for me. He aso made a couple of keys for it so I would still have the original parts. Cost me $50.00. After all of that, I didn't put the spare tire carrier back on the car when I restored it. It just sits in the garage for now.
