camaro lt1 heating up
I have a 1993 Z28 LT1 that I just bought. Put a few miles on it this past weekend and noticed that when it sets idling in the driveway it heats up to just under the red marking on the temp gauge. While driving, the car runs around the middle of the gauge and stays there. I haven't noticed the cooling fans kicking on either. I read on the forum that people were having similar problems with their Corvettes. Is this prone to F-Bodies as well? Coolant is very clean/new, has brand new thermostat, and heat in car is good. haven't had too much time to diagnose but all three relays have power and test good. Any thoughts???? We just got 13-15" of snow in northern ohio so i won't be going cruising again anytime soon:-( Can't wait for it to be over so I can get the cars out!!!

Fan has a sensor that activates it-sounds like the sensor may be bad-check and clean connections first. Fan should have kicked in before temp climbs that high. I'm assuming you have two fans-one is activated when the A/C is on, the other is for cooling. On the Vette the drivers side fan is for cooling, the passenger's side fan is A/C.

Thanks!!!It is a dual fan setup. I'll check if the one kicks on with the AC.The Haynes manual I have for the car is not very specific in that area. I will have to try a Chilton's or a factory one to pinpoint the sensor.

I also have a 1993 Camaro Z28 and mine does the same thing. LT1's just run hot. If it reaches the middle of the guage and stays there, and then cools down when the car is in motion and/or fans come on don't worry about. It's normal. LT1's are hot engines. If the gauge ever reads higher or the car doesn't cool off when in motion worry.
Drive it and enjoy.
