Hey blueshark, sounds like your reffering to the alloy make-up of an iron block, from what I've read the mixture can run from plain cast iron up to 10% tin and 20% nickel, you could have a combination of the tin and nickle or only one of these metals mixed with the iron. The 10% & 20% combo is reported to be best, the tin helps control expansion and contraction, the nickel hardens the block and provides a longer lasting smoother bore. If you've checked the block for cracks and/or other damage and all looks good then I would say $150 is a fair price, it would be best to have the original main caps with the block so you won't have to align bore as would be the case with any other main bearing caps.

It came out of a 1ton truck and is in impeccable shape with a fresh bore. The main caps are with it, as well as some peripherals. Thanks for the replies. The same guy has a second fresh .030, 4 bolt cast iron block. What might that be worth?
