Hello, my 1985 auto has an idle that fluctuates between 530 and 710 ;usually comes down slowly and settles around 530 to 550 or so. Is there something to adjust? The car has had a full tune up w/only 38,xxx miles on the odometer.

I have cleaned the MAF unit, new air cleaner, plugs, cap, and wires. Runs very well other than erratic idle and aver. 18 mpg w/lead foot driving it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

 

I had a disgustingly rough idle, make sure the plugs and order of the wires on the distributor are all proper as mis-firing in the wrong order is never a good thing.

Another thing Id check for is the condition of the MAF sensor.

Also, any idea how old your ignition coils are?
