Default harmonic balancer

I have a 65-327v8 and heard a noise coming from around the water pump. I pulled on the harmonic balancer and to my surprise it was loose. I thought that the bolt sheared off, but with some research am more confused. Some were pressed on without any bolt like mine is. There are no threads on the crankshaft. Where can I buy a new one, and how do I press it on with the engine still in the car?

What is loose? Is it just the outside ring or the whole thing, damper and pulley? If the whole thing is loose wouldn't that mean the shoulder on the crank is worn which is a VERY bad thing! The rubber in dampers can get tired and release the ring which will require a new damper,MUCH better than a new crank! You can drill and tap the hole in the crank,I've done some, necessary to install a new damper because if you beat it on with a "marro' (Spanish for BFH) you will take out the thrust bearing on the crank and subsequently destroy the engine! I'm not familiar with 65's but my experience with Vettes tells me working room in that area is VERY limited! Maybe you can remove the radiator and condenser and get in there? Good Luck!

I took the alt. belt off and the damper and pulley slid right off.
