I do computers for a living, and I usually shop Ecost ( http://www.ecost.com ) and Staples stores for refurbs and open box specials. In fact, I worked for one of the big 3 letter computer companies for 10 years, and my wife and kids all have Compaq's that I picked up on sale.

A few examples:

Under $300

bill.

Thanks for your reply

These seem to be without monitor.

I think she needs a monitor and kb mouse.. everything.

with the 500 deals.. its all new and comes with a monitor.

I can build her one with my old parts and buy a monitor.. but I think I'd have 3 or 4 bills in it all before i was done.. getting her a lic from Redmond .. the monitor.. etc.

I'm not sure I can beat $499 for a complete, new, lic'd, plug and play box setfull of ones and zeros.
