The Vararam can be good if you spend time to make sure everything is lined up and sealed correctly. If you whip through the installation process, you could end up with intake dirt ingestion and THAT's not good for the longevity of your engine.

Callaway makes a really nice CAI system but is a bit pricy at about $500. It is a very high-quality system, though.

BPP makes a decent CAI called the Vortex Rammer. Instead of a flat, panel-style filter (like those used in the Vararam and Callaway systems), the Rammer features a cylindrical style filter. Like the Callaway, it draws cold air from a cutout in the lower radiator cover.

Of course, for those who do not want to get their filters wet in the rain, there are several warm air setups like the Halltech Venom, the Blackwing, and Volant twin cone. K&N makes the FIPK system that allows some cold air to enter the engine bay via a tilted (outward) panel that is cut into the lower radiator cover and held in its tilted position by a small bracket. This what I consider to be an in-between CAI but is most likely better than a warm air system.

By the way, if you have an 02-04 Z06 and install an aftermarket air filter system, you could se lean codes due to the increase in turbulent air flowing through the screenless MAF. If this happens you will need either a dyno-tune or a screened MAF. Halltech includes a courser screen with some of their intake systems that are sold to Z06 owners.
