Default C1 GM crate motor options

C1, Stock 62 vette, looking for GM factory, crate engine options, hoping I can use the SP383 EFI Deluxe 450 hp engine. The EFI air cleaner ring looks low enough, below the distributor, it might clear the hood. I’m not sure if the C1, foward engine mount system will work with the SP383, Thanks

Welcome to the forums. Nice car, Numbers matching? It should bolt up the same. You might be constricted on the intake manifold height, check the measurements. I have used a flat top air cleaner cover to gain a little space.

I installed a TPI 350 from a 90 Vette in mine, utilizing the front mount system, and the injector hat JUST clears the hood. and I mean just as it keeps the paint worn off one rib in the hoods understructure. Love your fawn beige btw. nice car.

Thank you, very impressive set up. Yes the numbers match, I have the 327 in a crate. I’m second owner, she has about 50,000 miles. In the old days I could walk into a speed shop, super shops and get answers. I’m hoping I can find somebody that has installed this 383 EFI engine, and any issues they had with air cleaner clearance

Nice fit. Shouldn't any major issues, exhaust manifolds maybe. The 383 has a large Harmonic Balancer I'm sure it will be close to the front cross member (maybe). It should be easier than a LS. Put a 396 in a 62 years back, built side engine motor mounts, it did fill up the hole. Bought used headers from a 62 BB drag racer, tight. Small block would be easier engine.

There are aftermarket air cleaner bases that drop down around the carburetor which significantly lower the air cleaner. The downside is that it puts the air cleaner lid a lot closer to the intake for the carburetor.

There is also the option to notch the front cross member and drop the engine another inch or so for the harmonic balancer. Depending on the balancer, there might be a possibly of using a smaller balancer if necessary. I would set the engine in the car first and see what clearances it has. Very easy to pull it out and make adjustments. Sounds like a fun project.
