Fuel gauge or sender?

Default Fuel gauge or sender?
1967 vette gauge shows fuel 3/4 full......drained the tank....5 gals.....fuel gauge showed empty. Put the 5 gals back in and gauge showed 3/4 &$^@%@^%. Any hints? Or should I just replace both gauge and sender?

hmm..i dont know what type of gauge/sender it would have had back then...have you checked around for these items? there may be an upgrade kit that could save you some headache.
