Default 427 melting Spark Plug Leads

Hello Ladies and Gents.
I am new to the forum, and new to Corvettes in General. I have recently picked up a 69 roadster, with a big block. It is numbers matching from the block through, but has Aluminium heads, and L-88 style manifold with double pumper.
The Dizzie was fitted with a Pertronix Ignitor II module, which the black smoke has unfortunatelyescaped from. I replaced it with points, then shelved the original dizzie and dropped an MSD kit in it, including the Digital 6 controller.
The engine had always had a bit of a miss (I have only had it about 3 months) and while fault finding this after the installation of the MSD, found that the 1 and 3 plug wires were melting on the headers (The car has aftermarket 'hooker' style headers and sidepipes).
I originally installed Eagle (good brand in Australia) 9mm leads, which cooked, then tried 45 degree boots - melted. tried 8mm Top Gun leads and today have tried some original GM leads a mate had. The leads which came out of the car with the dizzie are braided and are Accel, except for 1,3 and 4,( the hot ones) - these wereMSD. These leads were also showing signs of heat damage and breakdown
The only way forward that I can see is to try short plugs, but need to investigate where to buy them... Is there such a thing as a ceramic boot? Has anyone had this problem before?
Thanks guys

I have seen heat shieds on small blocks, but I'm new to BBs. I would think you can get them for BBs too.

Thank you all very much for your input, I found a local supplier of the Jacobs ceramic boots (Thanks wrwalke), will reply here in a few days after they are delivered / installed / tested.
Still have concerns over whether I can actually fit them on, but we will see.
Thanks again, and Happy Trails.
