Default Blower motor for 1980 Corvette

New to the forum. I am replacing the a/c blower motor and fan on 80 vette. Looks like the blower motor was replaced once before. There was no gasket between the motor and where it bolts to the body when I took the blower motor off, but appears there might have been one there originally. Anyone know if a gasket is called for there? Tks.

IIRC, they used "rope caulk" as a gasket because it's pliable and will conform to irregularities in the firewall surface. It's the same stuff that holds the plastic shield behind the door panels to the door itself.
