Can't locate this part!
I'm a first time vette owner and have an 82 CE. Under the hood there is a damper door that allows air into the top of the air breather. The damper has an electric actuator that is bad, but I can't find this thing anywhere on the net. Does anyone know what this thing is called or where one can be purchased? Thanks!
Welcome to the Corvette Forum. If it's like the one on the cowl induction on the '73-'74s, it's a solenoid actuator. Searched several vendors w/ no luck. Maybe vacuum actuator. Might try a Chevy parts man.
SHARK has a good idea. Go to a Chevrolet dealer and let the parts department guy look it up on the micro fish. You can get the correct "noun nomenclature"(part name)-sorry, that comes from the military years LOL-and then check out the aftermarket companies. Good Luck.
It sounds like a 12 volt "solenoid" is what you all are describing. Find an old photo copy machine somewhere and scavenge one out of it or go to an electric component supplier and ask for one. They are more or less universal in their applications. It is an electro - magnetically activated plunger.

Might also see if you can see an '82 at a Corvette show. There's also a guy at the factory that ran a tech hotline named Gordon Killebrew. Think he's retired now but still maintains the service. Do a little digging and you can probably find him. Try the NCM.
Idle air control valve (IAC)? That is the only piece I can think of that might fit your description... Ecklers carries them:

bill.
