Default Fuel Pump

Has anyone changed the stock fuel pump on an 82 to the fuel pump for the 85 vette. This is supposed to be a direct replacement etc. If you have done this change what adjustments did you have to make after the change? Did the pressure and flow settle in or did you have to change and adjust it?
Most all have said it should be changed to the 85 fuel pump but I am just wondering how is the operation after it was done. Any good, bad or ugly info would be greatly appreciated.

Since its a direct replacement, I don't think you would have to make any adjustments. The pressure regulator should handlle the pressure aspect of it and the flow should take care of itself. Of course that's just my opinion. I have no facts to base that on.

Default fuel pump

Making the change to begin with the current fuel pump is squealing like a banshee and has to be replaced. And to what others have been saying the pressure is more constant and keeps it at 14 pounds which runs better so I am told. I know right now the pump is not keeping a steady pressure because at idle the RPM's are up and down, didn’t happen until it started making the noise, so the pump is having cavitation's and has to be replaced. It is so loud you can hear me coming 400 feet away, LOL. Anyway people I have talked to say that the 85 pump is the way to go and is a direct replacement. What are your thoughts on this? Any words are appreciated.

Sounds like you're on top of the issue.
I don't know elec. pumps.

I'm "Old School", mech pump, points, coil, condenser, dist, etc.
AND, a carburated system.
I like to be able to adjust the points with the engine running.
Try that with a ford. Heh, Heh.
IMHO, part of the fun is bein' able to make changes at a whim.
...and do some good. LOL

The "Starship", being an '80, doesn't have a 'puter an' all that stuff.
Part of why I chose 'er. ; )
