Default hood latch not opening

HI. I have a 76 vette that i bought from my brother it has been sitting for quite some time way before i got it. I am having trouble getting the hood to open. Neither side will release. I have read some previous forums but there is not enough information to help. Can someone please give me some information on how to open this hood?I'm ready to get this baby running. Thank you for your time.

KATIE

Hi Katie, I hope we can help. Try to give us as much info as you can. I think your '76 should be the same as my '78, hood release lever near the driver side door pillar, it's a cable actuated release mechanism on each side of the hood. Get someone to help you with this, one person on the passenger side pushing down on the hood about six inches from the rear edge of the hood, the other person on the driver's side pushing down in the same spot and pulling the hood release lever at the same time, hopefully this will relieve some tension on the latch and allow it to swing open. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Do you feel any resistance when you pull the hood release, or is it very easy to pull through the whole range of motion? If it's easy to pull, the cable might have given up. If thats the case it will be a little more complicated to get the hood open. Keep us updated if you get it open or not with buckshots suggestion.
