Default Lost key for glove box/alarm/spare tire locks.

Good morning, my 1st post after introducing myself. I bought a 73 that only has the ignition key. I’ve called around local locksmiths but no one wants to bother with this. Anyone know how to get a replacement key made? Thanks.

Your choice's are replace the locks, Locksmith and the Dealership. You can have a really cute woman ask for the replacement key or maybe flash some Big Bills. Have you looked under the Seats? Kinda strange the accessory Key is most always on the same ring as the ignition, but things happen. That's one thing I always try to do have a 2 spare sets made 1 spare and one in a hide a key..

Thanks, I was hoping that having the VIN # would lead to some key code.

The GM dealer can make a key off the Vin number not sure about the locksmith method. There should be a Key decoder made by now but maybe not.

Lowes makes keys, not sure if you took the glove box lock to them if they could do anything with it. I worked at a dealership once and we had a guy that coded keys to locks. I think they could read your lock to make a key if they had to.

Depending on how much it is going to cost you, a complete lock set can be had brand new off of eBay for under 250.00.
I'm going to do this for my '73, since I don't have matching locks and the spare tire lock is completely missing.
