I'm rebuilding the power steering pump on my '76 with a seal kit I got from ZIP products. My overhaul manual has a section on this, but I'm hitting a snag trying to separate the pump from the reservoir. The manual says to tap on the edge with a "soft" hammer. Has anyone done one of these and have any advice on getting the two parts separated? Should I pry it apart?

I did it once awhile ago on another car and it did come apart.
Use a rubber mallet or something like that. Be careful if you try to pry it appart.
If you score the surface you will most likely get a leak.
