primary metering rods, where oh where?
I have a 79 that has bent metering rods (don't ask) Original Rochester. I cannot find them anywhere or I may be asking the wrong question of google. I also need the air horn gasket and I don't want to buy a whole kit for it. I found a web site that has them of a few bucks but the metering rods only go to 1974. The rods say 40k. Thanks in advance.

Wow, I don't know what to tell you. If it were me I'd by the metering rods available and compare to your damaged ones, but I know from experience they can look identical and not be. Might have to buy a new carb completely -- somethingmodern. I'd hate to do it too, but . . . If you know the exact dimensions you need you could probably have them machined. Expensive, but allows you to keep the stock carb.

Get ahold of www.pacvette.com , they are a Vette wrecking yard here in the west. They have all kinds of parts.

Hi sciguy6, this company used to be Jones Carburation, it's now called JET Performance Products. www.jetchip.com They have Q-Jet parts and can customize a kit for you.

Thanks all, I will check it out. I have to stay on budget as my bearings are going on the drivers side and that's going to be $$$. Didn't plan on the carb so a "new" carb is out. I have 2 other cars I'm working on (freebies) 73 Spitfire and 87 (sorry guys) 5.0 Mustang my son is helping me work on. My Vette comes first though.

Not sure what the K stands since mine is an early '73 edition. A stands for single taper and B stands for double taper. The 40 stands for .040" dia at the main point. Had a couple of late '70s and they both had Ks on the rods.

No experience with them.

Couldn't get any of the companies to respond and the most common answer was to get a new carb. I went to my local Murray's (I needed a air horn gasket anyway) and it turns out the last kit (a couple years ago rebuild) was the wrong kit. The wrong kit matched the previous gaskets (but I assume that the last owner had it rebuilt also) So when I put the new kit and I did my best to straighten the bent metering rod and put it all together and it runs excellent! A bit of fine tuning and it should be great. Thanks all for your help.

Is this a spreadbore (Quadrajet) carb? The metering rods are for the secondaries in it. If so, then most any quadrajet will work. If not, then is it like the old thermoquad? Edelbrock makes a strip kit for their carbs that has metering rods and jets. Do the metering rods come out the top without removing the air horn?
